    Posted: July 18 2008 at 11:01am
Hi:
We upgraded from SQL 2000 Ent to SQL 2005 Ent over the July 4th weekend.  Since then we cannot delete a GP user.  I login to GP as SA and when I try to delete the user account I get the following error message.

"Deleting the login failed for an unknown reason. Contact your SQL Server administrator for assistance"

There isn't anything in the event log pertaining to this error.

Any ideas?

Our Environment
Windows 2003 Ent
SQL 2005 Ent
Great Plains Dynamics 9
Regards,
Terry

Dear Friend

Reently I faced the same issue. We migrated our SQL 2000 Server to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 ,then after succesfull migration to sql server 2005 i cant login with my existing users into my Great Plains .

Solution :

Delete the users from sql server security > User tree and again create all the users in the G.P

Other wise simply create the Users in the GP User Creation Wizard

Hmmm.  Doesn't exactly sound like the same problem to me.

Your users could not login.

My problem is that I cannot delete the user from GP.

Terry

Dear Terry,

Go to SQL Server System Management Studio >Seciurity Tab > Login Tree

Check Whether Your Users Are Still There......

Yes - They definitely exist and are mapped to the database.

Deleting the SQL Login and the database user does Not remove them from GP.

This stupid solution will help!
DELETE All users from the DYNAMICS and all companies databases then go to SQL security folder and delete all users as well -for sure execluding the SA- then recreate all users on each database, make sure that each user is assigned to DYNGRP role and db_owner role.

You're kidding ... right?
Delete all 250 users ... which deletes their permissions.  Not a chance!

I'll call MS for help long before I create a self imposed nightmare for myself!
